Tom Ford’s years at Gucci are iconic. His decade spent as creative director changed fashion and the potency of his vision ripples into the present day. Just ask Kim and Kylie.
The Fall/ Winter 1997 collection rewrote the 80’s: the show opened with broad shouldered jackets atop sweeping trousers and closed with fur chubbies worn over microscopic dresses. This particular fantasy was one of executive power that traced a line from minimalist luxury to sexual decadence. Patent leather harnesses snaked around cashmere suiting. Every look was shown with sharp, shiny footwear. The boots we have here appeared in the runway show and ad campaign. They are knee high, feature a pointed toe, and evoke military, equestrian and gothic themes. Crafted in black patent leather, they are unworn deadstock and still smell new.
